Here at the ALI, we support students' learning through classes and extra-curricular programs. Each of the programs listed below is designed to help our students improve their English, learn about U.S. culture, and become a member of the UMKC and Kansas City communities.
The ALI Conversation Partners Program pairs ESOL students with UMKC academic students and community members in order to promote exchange between ESOL students and other members of the community, while helping to improve students' English proficiency. This program is a great opportunity for both ESOL students and Kansas City natives to explore the city and learn about different cultures!
ALI's service-learning component provides students with the opportunity to practice English in a real-world setting. All full-time students are required to complete at least 3 hours of service each semester. J-1 students complete at least 6 hours.
For every season, the ALI plans Community Events designed to build community among our students, faculty, and staff while giving students the opportunity to learn about US culture in the Midwest.
