Future Student Scholarships

A variety of scholarships are available to help new UMKC School of Humanities and Social Sciences students pay for college thanks to gifts from UMKC alumni, the Kansas City community and other generous donors.

School of Humanities and Social Sciences Department Scholarships

As a new student at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, you're automatically eligible for scholarship awards as part of your application for admission. These scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Several opportunities are also available with a separate scholarship application.

Incoming Freshman Student Scholarships

Future Roo Scholarship

  • Eligibility - Incoming freshman with a primary major in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Students must have a high school core GPA of 2.75 or above. 
  • Deadline - Awarded on a first-come, first-served basis beginning August 1
  • Academic year amount - $700

SHSS Diversity Scholarship

  • Eligibility - Incoming freshman students from Missouri or Kansas; underrepresented minorities or LGBTQIA+.
  • Deadline - May 1
  • Academic year amount - $500

Albert Gerecht Scholarship

  • Eligibility - First-time college students only with high school GPA of 3.5 or higher who have been admitted to the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Transfer Student Scholarships

Future Roo Scholarship

  • Eligibility - Incoming transfer students with a primary major in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Students must have a transfer GPA of 2.75 or above and 24 transferable credit hours.
  • Deadline - Awarded on a first-come, first-served basis beginning August 1
  • Academic year amount - $700

SHSS Dean's Transfer Award

  • Eligibility - Incoming transfer students with a primary major in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Students must have a transfer GPA between 3.0 and 3.5 and 24 transferable credit hours.
  • Deadline - Awarded on a first-come, first-served basis beginning August 1
  • Academic year amount - $1,000

SHSS Diversity Scholarship

  • Eligibility - Incoming transfer students who are residents of Missouri or Kansas; underrepresented minorities or LGBTQIA+.
  • Deadline - May 1
  • Academic year amount - $500
