About

Cote Smith grew up in Leavenworth, Kansas, and on various army bases around the country. His first novel, Hurt People, was an FSG original that won the High Plains First Book Award in 2017, and was a finalist in the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize for Debut Fiction. His second novel, Limetown: The Prequel to the #1 Podcast, was published by Simon & Schuster.

He earned his MFA from the University of Kansas, and his stories have been featured in One Story, Crazyhorse, Third Coast, and FiveChapters, among other publications. He lives in Lawrence, Kansas.
