Dr. Lucas is currently Professor Emeritus of Criminal Justice and Criminology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Prior to retirement his primary research and teaching focused on issues related to drug abuse behavior and programs designed to respond to drug abuse problems. During his thirty-six year career at UMKC his research focused on describing the etiology and epidemiology of drug abuse, evaluation of prevention and treatment programs for drug and alcohol abuse, particularly among criminal justice involved offenders, and issues related to the efficacy of official policies in response to drug abuse. His work is published in leading journals in the field, and still referenced by other scholars in support of their work.
