Dr. Toya Like is an Associate Dean and Professor in the Criminal Justice and Criminology Department at UMKC, where she has been on faculty since 2006. In the School of Humanities and Social Sciences Dean’s Office, Dr. Like is responsible for undergraduate programs.
Her research focuses in two primary areas: (1) contextual and individual level characteristics on risks for violent victimization, and (2) intersections of identity on crime and justice-related outcomes. Professor Like’s work is featured in peer-reviewed journals such as Crime & Delinquency, Deviant Behavior, and Violence & Victims as well as in edited volumes. She recently authored a book, Violence at the Intersection, which examines the impact of intersections of identity on risks for and resilience against experiences with violence.
