Dr. Kristi Holsinger joined the CJC faculty in 1999. She never expected that someday she would move into administration, but loves her job as UMKC’s Senior Vice Provost for Student Success! She currently oversees the Offices of Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Registrar’s, Academic Advising, Academic Support and Mentoring and Career Services with the main objective of increasing enrollment numbers and improving student success metrics, like retention and graduation rates. Dr. Kristi Holsinger is the Senior Vice Provost for Student Success at UMKC. She is also a Professor in the Criminal Justice and Criminology Department at UMKC, where she has been on faculty since 1999.
While at UMKC, Dr. Holsinger developed a youth mentoring course and various service learning projects in collaboration with the Jackson County Family Court. Her first book, Teaching Justice: Solving Social Justice Problems through University Education, was published in 2012. Her second book, Toward Justice: Broadening the Study of Criminal Justice, coauthored with Dr. Lori Sexton, was published in 2017. She has published more than 30 academic articles and delivered more than 50 conference presentations.

Dr. Holsinger began her research in the area of understanding and addressing the experiences of system-involved adolescent females, exploring their pathways into delinquency and experiences in juvenile justice systems. She has done work in the development of policies and practices related to girls and women in correctional systems and in the implementation of PREA standards in community correctional institutions. Her work has focused on innovations in teaching and assessment practices in academic criminal justice programs.
