Dr. Peter Morello is Associate Professor Emeritus and lives in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He continues to teach online courses in broadcast/digital journalism, media ethics, cross-cultural journalism, and international reporting. As Fulbright Scholar and Senior Specialist, Peter taught at universities in Ethiopia (Addis Ababa Graduate School of Journalism,) Russia (Togliatti State University,) and Eswatini (University of Eswatini, southern Africa.) Peter also conducted US State Department sponsored workshops for practicing journalists in those countries. As a contributing correspondent for Kansas City Public Television (KCPT) and regional PBS, Peter produced several award-winning documentaries. They included: “The Missouri Senate Race: The Post 911 Contest,” “Cambio de Colores: The Changing Face of America’s Heartland,” “Profiles of Black Success: Kansas City’s Untold Stories,” and “Haiti & the Resurrection.”
Before joining UMKC, Peter was a PBS correspondent for 15 years in Europe. He covered many global events: the emerging democracies of eastern and central Europe, the reunification of Germany, breakup of the Soviet Union, war in Bosnia and UN famine relief efforts in Somalia. He started his career in journalism at a CBS TV Network affiliate in Colorado. Peter is also a certified scuba diver, certified to mentor maximum security inmates in Kansas, and is a certified police volunteer in Keller, Texas. He is highly interested in global affairs and world cultures, and he likes to stargaze.
